Folks,
I'm going to be a bit stricter with the type of content that I post on here, I wont be putting up any strategy or tactics stuff anymore and am going to redirect all searches and requests for that kind of information to http://www.crusaderscoliseum.com now that I have it up and running and it seems to be doing ok.
I might even end up migrating the blog over to that site so that I only have 1 to maintain but if I do that it will all be redirected anyway so no worries about that.
For the time being i'm going to start posting more often in proper blog style with some stuff about Raid Leading, Guild Management, Raid Leader Addons and of course more Raid Leader Rant!
I'll put the changes in place later today and add the redirects at lunch.
Cyb.

Raid Leader Addons: Raid Roll
Description:
Raid Roll is an addon that can be used to perform a raid roll. A
raid roll lists all players with an ID beside their name. Then it
performs a roll and announces who the winner is (based on the ID).
You can also track rolls made by players on any loot that drops.
This function supports the EPGP system of distributing loot. The
addon also contains a loot tracker which can be used to announce or
monitor loot that has dropped.

How the thing works for a Loot Master
Raid Roll is my addon of choice for loot distribution management.
Now in my opinion the name doesnt really do the addon justice. It's
not Just a raid roll addon, its also a loot rolling,
tracking and assigning addon. In essence it's the only addon that I
need to use apart from EPGP to know exactly who is interested in
what and if they are elligible to get it or not. Not only that it
offers me the ability to announce the loot to raid (or indeed a
channel of my choosing) and then initiate...

Just
wanted to post that i'm a happy tree! :)
After a few weeks of needing a third healer to down Festergut on 10
man myself (Tree) and my healing partner Zarbon (Pally) finally 2
healed Festergut. Some people might scoff and say it's easy but the
truth is that it isnt easy and requires a decent amount of
co-ordination between healers and tanks.
Healing it with just 2 of us was something that we really wanted to
do, it means that no changes to spec and team members are needed,
saves us valuable time and really helps to increase our dps against
Festerguts enrage timer.
Big shout out to Zarbon who was popping 6.3k HPS which was almost
as much as my 6.7k HPS. My best so far has been a 7.7k HPS.
Remember guys though, we are talking a 10 man raiding guild in
mostly 10 man gear apart from a few pieces so dont compare that to
a fully T10:25 kitted Druid. Personally i'm fairly happy with my
healing so far but i cant help thinking that 10k HPS is really the
magic number that I should be aiming for, at least until I feel i
need to raise the bar on my personal goals again.
I'd recommend everyone having some personal goal...

Raid Leader Addons: Raid Buff Status
Over the next few weeks I will be detailing what addons I recommend
for Raid Leaders. I've tried and tested loads and am constantly
looking for new releases and updates. A great place to read up on
addons in general is http://www.nostockui.com a place
that I recommend to any WoW player of any class.
Raid Buff Status is one of the addons that I consider to be one of
my "Core" simply because it's ease of use, setup and the amount of
buffs that people "forget" or seem to miss for whatever
reason.
Raid Buff Status works right out of the box extremely well, but if
you want to maximise it's potential and really integrate it into
your raiding practice then there are a few options you will want to
configure. Those such as where to announce warnings and what
"extra" announcements to make. These extra announcements include a
warning when a raid member puts down a refreshment table, soulwell
and buff foods such as fish feasts. Not only will it announce these
facilities are available it will also announce when they are about
to expire and even name a raid member who might be missing a food
buff before it disapears!

Raid Leader: RL Preparation and Analysis
Hey fellow WoWers,
I just wanted to touch on a couple of points that have sparked a
little bit of interest for me. I've recently been pugging a few
raids to places that I quite like and hold some interest for me,
even though they dont hold any upgrades. Getting a few more kills
under my belt but using it as light relief from the role of RL by
just sitting back and being a player again.
What I noticed is that there are some really good RL's out there,
and then there are some really attrocious ones. I've tried really
hard to step back and not say anything and let the raid run it's
course, watching, learning and generally forming my own opinions of
what the problems are. I have to say it's easier said than done, my
initiall reaction is to jump into the fray and start trying to
organise things, kind of a RL OCD that wont go away without
medication. ;)
For every 2-3 bad pugs that i've been on in the past few weeks
there has been 1 good raid. Largely due to the members of the raid
but also the RL being organised and knowing their stuff. I asked a
few questions and here is what i've found out.
The good RL's prepare before a raid and analyse...

Guild Structure and Leadership
I've been thinking about this article now for over a week and a
bit, since one of the readers here asked what my opinion was on
their guildies putting pressure on their officers to boost and raid
older content (/wave Piefixer). I was pretty blunt with my
response, mainly because I've seen a lot of lazy guildies over the
last few years. People who just want a free lunch and to have
everything organised for them and handed to them on a plate. Dont
get me wrong I've also met my fair share of the good guys and the
folks who can be bothered to go that extra mile to help out, but
more common these days are people who fit into the first
observation.
It led to an overall question of what I think the officers should
be doing, what is their role and how far should they be putting
themselves out to try and accomodate the requests of other guild
members. What's the role of the GM in all of this and what can
guildies expect to get help with without being a heavy burden on
the rest of the players (remember GM's, Officers and RL's are
players as well and are not just there to run guild
errands!).
It got me thinking about the guilds that i've been a part of, what
made them successful...

<Sect of Obsidian> - The Journey so far.
I'm just going to add the feed from http://www.guildprogress.com for our guild Sect of Obsidian. That way it's easier to track progress and successes and things we need to do better. We are just starting ToTGC 10 man and we have started raiding 25 man ToC with a raid alliance. I think we represent a fairly solid 10 man guild at the moment with the potential to push into some of the harder encounters and i'd like to be able to show our journey along the way. As you can see there is still a lot for us to accomplish, as a guild we formed late in the expansion and didnt really start raiding until a few weeks into Call of the Crusader and our rankings reflect that. I'm hoping that with a better move off the starting blocks in Icecrown 3.3 we should be able to really up our game and be in a posision to take some higher places.
We are not expecting to do realm firsts, we just dont have that kind of player base, people work, have families and children and lives to lead I am aiming for the top 10-15 spot though in terms of 10 man stuff and I think that's more than realistic even against those 25 man guilds who have 10 man sub teams.
Wish us luck!!
